Itadori Is Actually A Selfish And Lonely Guy - Itadori Yuji: Full Character Analysis

Jujutsu Kaisen - Itadori Yuji

He's a first-year at Tokyo metropolitan curse technical college, his birthday is on the 20th of March which makes him a Pisces, his exact age is unknown though we do know that he's in his teenage years, he has a muscular build, he stands at five foot six, and weighs 170 pounds. He was already a powerhouse with what could be considered superhuman abilities, his strength is insane as he can break through walls and bend a soccer goalpost by throwing a lead ball at it. Even further, he can run a 50-meter track in just 3 seconds, and his reflexes match his incredible speed as can be seen by his crazy dodging skills. All those facts are just a little closing view about Itadori Yuji's personality from the very begging of the story, What about now? What is going on with our Protagonist? And how he could get the audience satisfaction by his character development in just a few events away from the start? And the more important question is What you don't know or realize about Itadori's behavior? And how his actions are justified by themselves for most of the time?... This is the character analysis of the protagonist of the year: The unique and the only Itadori Yuji from Jujutsu Kaisen.

I don't know how I'll feel when I'm dead but I don't want to regret the way I lived

From the very beginning, Itadori was ordinary, but also a powerful guy gifted by superhumans abilities, he was raised and grown all his age by his grandfather, so he never saw or known his parents. After his grandfather died, Itadori start to notice his loneliness at home as he was living alone, at school as he had no real friends or a true relationship. At that same school, Itadori used to hang sometimes with Sasaki and Iguchi in their Occult Research Club, he calls these two friends, but they know literally nothing about him, also Itadori only entered the club so he could leave school earlier and visit his grandpa in the first place. Although, Yuji is still a charming guy making friends of enemies, as we can see that in his relationship with Junpe, and again later with his instant 'Besto Freindo'.

It's also very obvious that Yuji's life is complicated as much as it's simple, he's the only one in the Jujutsu Kaisen series who contain a living curse inside him, he's literally sharing his body, his life, even his entire soul with the strongest curse ever existed: Sukuna. He can truly lose his body for any moment given, yes, Sukuna is a curse without feelings, but he exists with his will, plans, or whatever, he is not a friend of Itadori, and he is only waiting for the good and the right moment to take and dominate Itadori's body as soon as possible. But, for Yuji, his strong and tough will is already protecting him, he fascinated the strongest current creature living, his 'Sensei' or Goju Saturo, and he keeps fascinating others one by one, starting from the top with Masamashi, Todo, and many others.

Yuji is an optimistic guy looking forward to reaching his goal, the opposite of the other shonen protagonist, he has no such dream, like to dominate or conqueror anything, his desire is to keep respecting his dead grandfather that he loved, by doing what he told him and protect people around him. In this way, Itadori adopted a selfish hero complex, and his qualities start to become more altruistic than the normal average. Again, we know that he is still a selfish hero, but the question, in this case, is: what does really mean a Selfish Hero Complex?

So, as I said, Itadori Yuji's desire is to protect others, but he is that type of guy, no matter what, he won't accept any help from others, and this is bad for him, even if he doesn't care about others opinion on him, but that's a kind of carrying others lives while forgetting his own. It is very true that Yuji is extroverted and easygoing, and definitely, you want to spend your afternoon with him, but at the same time he wants to be so independent of others as much as he can, and that doesn't mean in the first place he doesn't like others or maybe he is just acting kindness, but this is his nature. Even though, we need to know the true reason WHY? And we also need to understand his character better. For that, let's dive into his deep psychological personality and try to find out justifications for his actions.

Why I became a Jujutsu Sorcerer? It just kinda happened at first, but I'm a lonely guy. I want to save lots of people and have lots of people watching over me when I die

We agree that Yuji Itadori is a lonely guy, and as we've seen him in the series, he was extroverted and able to communicate with others within or outside his environment without having any problem or any fear of that. But this is not the case, Itadori is not extroverted only or introverted, he's not independent or even selfish, yes, Itadori is all that mixed and united together to build and give us a unique character loved by most fans. Well, Itadori was a little introverted in his unshown depth, but the reason why it never showed for us.

His grandfather's last words left an enormous impact on the way he lives, he is now serious about his thought, he became eager at any time, any moment, and in any situation to sacrifice himself in the price of protecting others. And here, we start to see the true built of Itadori's personality, the leader that risks himself in exchange for protecting his environment, it's exactly what goes here with Itadori, his superhuman given strength, his grandfather last words, even being the container of the most powerful curse, these and more are all reasons that have made Itadori Yuji a so strong and independent character.

On the other side of things, and as I said Yuji's life is simple, he's a cool, funny, and incurious guy, even tho he's awkward sometimes, but Itadori actually doesn't care too much about the black dark side of his life. He loves enjoying food, he nearly eats everything, and he never hates resting and having peacetime. he also started to enjoy being a sorcerer after it just came without getting ready for it, and now, he is curious to learn more about his cursed energy, his abilities, curses itself, and developing his strength at once, to become more than an ordinary sorcerer, and to protect more people, so he can finally die with a smile in his face while a lots people are watching over him, and make his grandfather who died alone in front of him proud.

Grandpa died his head held high. This death... is not acceptable

Akutami did a really good job when creating such a deep wise personality like that, Itadori was one of the greatest characters in the series, he played the role of a shonen hero and took it to another advanced stage, where everyone is really obsessed with him, even more than that Itadori is such a character where all deep meanings and feelings such like humor, altruism, and loyalty are mixing and thrown in the most satisfying way, Otherwise, Akutami put in every personality he creates deep meanings, principles, and rules to start that fight all characters in Jujutsu Kaisen dive in, to express, and find the self, the goal, and the will they're looking for.

In short, Itadori is a character that needs to be understood and treated away much different than another ordinary protagonist, and the one who succeeds in this mission was his 'Best Freindo' Aoi Todo, the next wise personality coming after Yuji, they have the same women type, and they have been fighting together, even they've similar body strength. So what's a better way to know more about Yuji through his 'Besto Friendo' than clicking this link here.
